What you’ll find out:
• Whether you have picked up an infection that has no symptoms — which is the case for most sexually transmitted infections, most of the time.
• Specifically whether you have chlamydia, which is common, usually silent, and one of the leading preventable causes of blocked fallopian tubes and infertility in women.
• Whether you need treatment, and if so, exactly what and for how long. Most of these are cured with a short course of medication.
• Whether you need a repeat test — some infections take a few weeks after exposure before a test can detect them, and your doctor will tell you if and when to come back.
Why it matters: There is no lecture here and no judgement. The only bad decision is the one where you worry for six months instead of testing for one day. Getting checked is the responsible, adult thing to do — and it is completely private.
